My doctor told me to take a maximum of 50 mg from all sources of zinc intake per day. Over 50 mg total intake per day causes a reduction of Copper in your body, which is not good.
—Five notes:
1.  50 mg zinc total per day while taking vitamin D3 in liquid (soft gel, not pill) form is needed to build up your immune system.
2.  You can take just one 5000 IU softgel per day if you don’t know what your Vitamin D level is currently, as one doctor says.
Or, get your current Vitamin D level from a blood test (see your doctor to get the blood work at your annual doctor visit).
3.  Each 1000 IU of D3 should raise your Vitamin D level by 6 points. One 5000 IU (International Units) of D3 softgel should raise your vitamin D level by 30 points; that’s what it did for me).
4.  The Vitamin D scale ranges from 30 to 100. Most people are deficient in Vitamin D. So, when in doubt, just take one 5000 IU D3 softgel per day. It’s cheap at Walmart (Spring Valley brand, $7.00 for 250 softgels—5000 IU each, about 3 cents per day cost).
Your target is to be at a minimum of 50 points on the Vitamin D scale.
