I make my own ghee/clarified butter. I usually start with at least 3 pounds of a grass fed organic GMO free butter, Only I let it "cook" on very low heat for a few hours until all the water is evaporated and the milk solids turn a dark brown. I then skim the foam off the top and pour the clear golden butter into a deep pan that I use to deep fry various foods. Deep frying in the ghee/clarified butter gives the food a lovely buttery flavor, yum!

It costs about $25.00-$35.00 for a 4 to 5 pound batch, before cooking.

I don't bother to refrigerate, but leave it on the stove. I fry things in it at least a couple times a week. It usually lasts a good 6 months or so.

When it finally turn a dark color and foams when cooking, I heat it up really high (not to smoking temperature though) and pour it into the cracks in the cement driveway. It kills (fries) the weeds (including the roots) for a good couple of years and is non toxic to the ground.
