My grandmother kept a jar of golden raisins soaked in Gin on her kitchen counter for years to alleviate arthritis pain. Later on in her 80’s she began soaking marijuana in rum (I questioned whether she should have been using Bay Rum but she insisted on using Rum that you could drink) until the marijuana leeched into the rum turning it deep gold to green depending on the weed she used (which was whatever she could get one of us grandkids to score. Pre dispensary days). Then she would wet a washcloth with the “elixir” and rub herself down (or recruit one of us to). She used that concoction pretty much daily for years up to the time of her passing at 92. She swore by it. We even had to keep a bottle hidden in her room in the nursing home for us to continue her regimen during her stay there. Amazingly, she didn’t wreak of pot & booze. Thankfully, because otherwise they may have thought we were abusing granny & report us to authorities. Lol

I have been taking a tablespoon of gin-soaked golden raisins, every morning, for over 40 years! This method does work (soak a box of golden raisins (found in the produce section of the supermarket) in a bowl (one pint) of inexpensive gin. I never feel any arthritis pain anywhere in my body. I keep a glass jar on my kitchen counter. I scoop one tablespoon every morning, without fail. Over the years, when I went to visit family or on vacation, I would prepare a "go-to basket" of all my "potions," as everyone called them! I also drink a four-ounce glass of black cherry juice every morning. I do not take any drugs (over-the-counter or prescribed) I am 80 years old!!

Do the raisins need to dry out completely before you put them in a container? Or is it just until there is no more liquid present?

Suffering painful ankle bothers I gave the gin raisins a go, everything painwise stopped within a day or two, when I finished the batch several weeks later I stopped taking the gin treated raisins. And by and by the pain returned and became worse until the next batch of gin raisins started to be consumed. Im very grateful for this recipe and the freedom it affords. Thank you one and all.
