Today’s blog is republished from my friends at TheAlternativeDaily, a leading publisher of daily alternative health tips that I personally read every day… The original article can be found here:

I bet if you looked in the mirror you wouldn’t say to yourself, “I look a little fungusy today.” More than likely, you don’t really know what it looks like to be fungusy.

Truth be told, you can’t really look like fungus (or a mushroom for that matter), but there is a good chance that fungus, to some degree or another, is compromising your health.

Don’t get too wigged out when I use the word fungus. We are all covered in fungal communities; they take up residence on us and within us, forming tight-knit colonies according to their kind. Many of these fungi are harmless, and a good number are quite necessary for health. However, when the bad guys move into the neighborhood, things get funky.

Fungi vs. bacteria

Before I go on, let’s first take a quick look at the difference between fungi and bacteria. Both are minute organisms that are found in almost every ecosystem on earth, and both can associate with other groups of living things. As mentioned above, they can either be harmless and necessary in biological processes, or they can be highly dangerous.

The main difference between fungi and bacteria is their cellular structure. Bacteria are prokaryotic organisms, meaning they do not possess a nucleus, while fungi are eukaryotic organisms, meaning they have a very well-defined nucleus. While both organisms have cell walls, what makes up these cell walls is different. Fungi, for the most part, have long hollow tubes that form networks (hyphae).

Each of these tubes is bordered by a strong wall made from chitin — the same substance that forms the exoskeletons of insects. Hyphae grow from their tips and reach out in a branching manner to form a network called mycelium. As the mycelium grows, it produces fruiting bodies and other structures that are rich with reproductive spores.

Bacteria multiply by binary fission when parent bacterium divide to make the same sized daughter cells. Fungi reproduce both sexually and asexually by a process of branching fragmentation and budding (as in the case of yeast).

Fungi are scavengers, feeding off dead stuff — kind of like the buzzards you see cleaning up roadkill along the highway. Bacteria, on the other hand, are a little more sophisticated in the fact that they can actually manufacture their own food.

Types of fungal infections

There are several fungal infections that result from different types of fungi entering the body.

For instance, Aspergillus fungi can be inhaled through the mouth or nose and can cause fever, cough and wheezing. In very severe instances, this fungal infection can spread to other organs including the brain, skin and bones.

Cryptococcus neoformans is found in the soil or in bird droppings. This fungus also enters the body through the mouth or nostrils and can cause a lung infection resulting in a cough or chest pain.

Histoplasma capsulatum is a fungus that is commonly found in eastern and central United States in soil that contains bird and bat feces. When spores are disturbed, they can be inhaled and can cause flu-like symptoms, body aches, fever and cough.

Candida albicans

Yeast, also known as Candida albicans, is a type of fungus that is present in all humans. The fungus is found on both the skin and mucus membranes. In small amounts, it is harmless to the body.

However, when the growth of yeast increases dramatically, the results can be absolutely devastating. Did you know that yeast overgrowth is considered to be one of the most prevalent, yet unrecognized conditions to man?

When you have a healthy body, the yeast is kept under control by the healthy bacteria within your body. However, medical antibiotics — and those found in much of the meat we eat — will upset the balance of your friendly bacteria. Since antibiotics are nonselective, they work to weaken the good bacteria that keep yeast in check.

The yeast then begins to flourish, and before you know it, it’s completely out of control. Antibiotics are not the only contributor to the upset of your healthy bacteria; cortisone, some birth control pills and certain drugs have an effect on it, as well.

Once the yeast has overgrown in your body, it thrives on sugar, carbohydrates, moldy foods, fermented foods and vinegar. If you’ve ever noticed that your cravings for any of these are very strong, chances are, you have a yeast overgrowth in your body.

When the level of yeast is elevated in your body, toxins are released into your bloodstream in high amounts. These waste products have a profound effect on your well-being and are linked to many health problems.

Signs of yeast gone wild

The effects of yeast overgrowth will worsen over time, and will seriously compromise physical, mental and emotional well-being. According to researchers, hidden, deviant fungus may be the reason for any number of seemingly unrelated health complaints.

Just another reason why it is so important to not look at symptoms in isolation. Very often, you will find that two seemingly unrelated things, like muscle twitches and frequent bladder infections, are the result of yeast gone wild.

Here are 32 signs that yeast may have moved in and is slowly taking over your body. If you suffer frequently from more than three of these, it may be time to learn more about yeast.

The spit test

Yeast overgrowth is one of the most difficult health issues to detect because of the small amount that is present in everyone. The best way to determine if you have yeast overgrowth is by taking a look at your lifestyle and diet.

Do you crave sweets and carbohydrates, experience constant illness, have a mental illness that doesn’t respond to medication, or generally feel “unwell?” Chances are you’re experiencing yeast overgrowth and need to make some changes to your diet.

You can also try the spit test. Yeah, we know, it sounds a little gross, but a spit test offers a really good analysis of what is going on inside your body and may show signs of a yeast overgrowth. The best time to take this test is as soon as you wake up in the morning, before you even get out of bed.

How to do the spit test

Gather as much spit as possible in your mouth.

Spit into a clear glass with room temperature filtered water.

Watch carefully.

The saliva will float at first. Watch to see if there are thin projections extending downward into the water after 15 minutes or so. They may look like hairs or strings. If this happens you may have a candida overgrowth problem.

If your saliva is very cloudy and sinks to the bottom within a few minutes, or parts of the saliva slowly sink, yeast overgrowth is a possibility. The particles are yeast colonies which band together.

If your spit is still floating after about an hour, it is likely that your yeast is under control.

The downward spiral

Candida can be linked to serious health problems. Once this fungus begins to thrive in the body, general health will spiral downward. The cravings for sugar and other foods that nourish the yeast will get stronger, and on and on it will go.

Eventually, the immune system becomes so weak that the symptoms are no longer tolerable. Often physicians will prescribe antibiotics to treat the symptoms, thus killing off the last of any friendly bacteria. When yeast is in this advanced state, depression and suicidal thoughts are very common.

How to kick the bad fungus to the curb

According to the National Candida Center, if you have symptoms and your spit test is positive for yeast, it is a pretty good indication that you have a candida overgrowth problem. The first step in addressing the problem is to adjust your diet.

Eliminate all processed foods and sugar, and begin eating only wholesome, organic foods if possible. The following foods also help the body heal from the assault of candida overgrowth and encourage the proliferation of healthy bacteria:

1. Coconut oil

This tropical treasure has strong antifungal properties, which will kill the bad bacteria and support immune system functioning. Replace your other cooking oils with coconut oil and add liberally to foods or your coffee. Aim for two tablespoons daily to start.

2. Garlic

Garlic also has strong antifungal properties and will destroy unfriendly bacteria while encouraging the growth of good bacteria. It detoxifies and encourages healthy liver and colon functioning. Use garlic liberally to jazz up your food or chew freely on two to three cloves per day. Note: Raw garlic is far superior in its efficacy.

3. Seaweed

It may not be too appealing to look at, but seaweed is a highly nutrient-dense food that can fight against yeast overgrowth. Many times, people with yeast overgrowth suffer from hyperthyroidism, and seaweed is rich in iodine, which helps balance the thyroid gland. In addition, seaweed is a detoxifier and helps to flush toxins out of the body while cleaning the digestive system. Eat fresh seaweed or take high-quality kelp supplements for best results.

4. Pumpkin seeds

These tiny seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which have antiviral and antifungal properties. They help to reduce the inflammation caused by yeast and fight depression as well. Add pumpkin seeds to your cereal, salads or even eat them as a tasty snack.

5. Ginger

Ginger is a powerful detoxifier that increases circulation and flushes toxins out of the liver while supporting the immune system. It helps reduce intestinal gas and soothes inflammation from yeast overgrowth. Make ginger tea by grating a 1-inch piece of ginger root and adding it to two cups of boiling water and a fresh slice of lemon.

Once you get your diet under control and introduce foods that fight the bad bacteria, you can consider taking a high-quality probiotic or eating a little bit of fermented food daily to keep your healthy bacteria count in good order.

Exercising daily and learning how to manage stress in your life will also help to keep fungus from taking over your body.

If you are not able to make these dietary changes, and you want to wipe out fungus completely and never have it return again, take a look at this fungus hack below…

There’s a mind-bending solution that has been crushing every single lab test, leaving doctors speechless…

Most people don’t realize this, but the majority of commercial mouthwashes are NOT actually good for your oral health. Sure, they can temporarily get rid of bad breath, but the problem is that most mouthwashes kill the good bacteria in your mouth as well as the bad bacteria, which isn’t a good thing. Alternatively, swishing coconut oil for 10 minutes a day (aka, “oil pulling” is a much healthier practice for your oral health than mouthwash)…

But in the guest article from my friends at TheAlternativeDaily on this page, they have a pretty clever compilation of 10 alternative uses for mouthwash that you probably never thought of, including fungus…

Listerine may be a common household item, but there are many ways to make use of the $6 bottle than freshening your breath. Although they may be a little out there, here are 10 alternative ways to put that blue-green liquid to good use, outside of a mouthwash.
(Video at the end).

1. CLEAN YOUR TOOTHBRUSH

Fill a clean cup with Listerine and leave your toothbrush soaking in the cup overnight. Bacteria spreads from your mouth to your toothbrush, so a little disinfecting is necessary. Listerine not only kills bacteria in your mouth but also on your brush. Remember to also change your toothbrush every 30 days.

2. GIVE YOURSELF A PEDICURE

Mixed with warm water and a cup of vinegar, Listerine make a perfect solution dry/cracked feet. Soak your feet for 30 minutes then give yourself a nice pedicure. Listerine is also great for getting rid of toenail fungus.

3. ITCHY SKIN RELIEF

Listerine can be used as a great itch relief on bug bites and even poison ivy. Dab some on a cotton swab and gently apply on the itchy area.

4. FRESHEN YOUR TRASH

We love that fresh smell of Listerine, so why not deodorize that smelly trash can with some? After #10, throw that Listerine filled paper towel in the trash and maybe pour a little more on a napkin. GOOD-BYE, bad odors!

5. FRESHEN YOUR TOILET

Pouring some Listerine in the toilet gives it that fresh clean smell and reduces any lingering odors. If this feels like a waste, instead of spitting the Listerine in the sink after a mouth rinse, spit it in a cup and dump it in the toilet. Killing bacteria in 2 places!

6. CLEAN YOUR PIERCING

After a piercing is completely healed, Listerine works very well as a cleaner. Dab a Q-tip in the Listerine and gently clean your piercing. You’ll feel a nice cooling sensation, which means it’s working!

7. USE AS DEODORANT

This may seem strange, but don’t worry we took the risk and tested this one for you! Using Listerine as a deodorant really does work! It is great for fighting odors. Dab some on a cotton swab and gently rub it on your armpits. If your ever in a pinch and run out of deodorant – give it a try!

8. USE AS A FLEA SHAMPOO

Surprisingly the fresh smell of Listerine is a turn-off for fleas! Using a spray bottle, fill half of the bottle with water and half with Listerine. Spray your pup with the entire bottle. Then bathe him/her as usual. Goodbye fleas!

9. FRESHEN YOUR WASHING MACHINE

Like the toilet and the trash, why not freshen up your washing machine. Pour some Listerine in a cup. Pour it into the washing machine. Run a quick rinse with warm water and WAHLAA – A fresh smelling washing machine. Pro-tip: Next time you forget to take the wet clothes out – give this a try!

10. CLEAN YOUR GLASS

Out of Windex? Fill a cup with water half way. Fill the other half with Listerine. Pour it on your glass table or spray on your windows and wipe off with a paper towel. Sparklingly, smudge-free glass!

(The original article source is here)

I would of never thought of those 10 clever alternative uses for mouthwash, especially for fungus. Speaking of fungus, if you want to wipe out fungus completely and never have it return again, take a look at this fungus hack below…

There’s a mind-bending solution that has been crushing every single lab test, leaving doctors speechless…

In fact, this totally surprising mix of ingredients is so powerful…

That taking just one tablespoon can make any infection vanish almost overnight…

By: Cat Ebeling, RN, MSN-PHN, co-author of the best-sellers: The Fat Burning Kitchen, The Top 101 Foods that Fight Aging & The Diabetes Fix

If you’ve ever sipped on a warm chai or supped on a delicious Indian dinner, that exotic, tantalizing spice you’re tasting could be cardamom. Cardamom has a sweet, pungent flavor with a touch of light, floral, lemony sweetness. It’s often used in Indian seasonings like garam masala and curries. It’s also delicious in chai, or Arabic coffee, breads, pastries and other recipes.

Cardamom is one of those age-old spices that has been used for years to treat health disorders like diarrhea, indigestion, depression, and even as an aphrodisiac.

Like many spices, cardamom is full of powerful phytonutrients and antioxidants.

It contains manganese that helps the body create connective tissue, bones and the sex hormones. It’s also critical for nerve and brain function and helps the body metabolize carbohydrates and fats.

Cardamom contains other phytochemicals, including limonene, pinene, myrcene, alpha phellandrene, alpha terpineol, alpha terpineol acetate, cineol, heptane, phytol and more. These compounds contribute to the medicinal properties of cardamom.

Cardamom has lots of dietary fiber, iron and manganese. It also contains plenty of vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc.

1. Digestive Health

Cardamom has been used for thousands of years to help with digestion. One study published in the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology found cardamom to be active against H.pylori infections, which is responsible for ulcers and some forms of gastric cancer. Another study found that cardamom alone could completely prevent or reduce the size of gastric ulcers by at least 50%.

2. Cavities and Bad Breath

Cardamom is useful for bad breath. In fact, in some countries, cardamom is chewed just for the purpose of fresher breath. A study from Kurukshetra University in India looked at the antimicrobial effects on oral bacteria. It was found that extracts of cardamom can inhibit or kill Streptococcus mutans and Candida albicans, as well as bacteria that cause bad breath.

Cardamom is also effective as a cavity preventative, helping kill the bacteria that cause tooth decay. This study shows that cardamom extract was effective in fighting five different types of bacteria that cause cavities.

3. Blood Pressure

Cardamom may be helpful for people with high blood pressure. This spice has a diuretic effect on the body, increasing urination and helping to decrease blood pressure. In one study, three grams of cardamom powder were given to 20 adults with high blood pressure, and after 12 weeks, blood pressure levels decreased to a normal range.

In addition to working as a diuretic to lower blood pressure, cardamom’s high levels of antioxidants may also be at work as well lowering blood pressure.

4. Blood Sugar

Since cardamom is high in manganese, it helps diabetics and other maintain more stable blood sugar levels. Research shows that people with diabetes tend to have low levels of manganese.

Some studies have shown that manganese deficiency can lead to glucose intolerance, which is what happens in diabetes. In addition, manganese is concentrated in the pancreas, which is also involved in producing insulin to lower blood sugar levels.

5. Cancer

Cardamom may contain antioxidants and other compounds that increase the activity of cancer fighting enzymes. In addition, cardamom may stimulate our body’s natural killer cells to fight off cancer and attack tumors.

Cardamom has also been shown to help slow the growth of colon cancer and stop its spread. And additionally, the eugenol it contains can help reduce the risk for tobacco-induced cancers in the lung.

Types of Cardamom

Cardamom can be found in most grocery stores. It comes in three different types: green (most common), black, and Madagascar. The green cardamom is used most often and is easiest to find.

Cardamom comes in pods or already ground but is most flavorful when purchased in the pods. You can add whole pods of it into dishes. These pods contain brown aromatic seeds that can be ground to release a potent flavor.

Be sure to keep in mind that ground cardamom seeds lose their flavor and aroma quickly, so it’s best to grind them just before cooking. Good quality cardamom can be expensive, but it’s potent, so not much is needed.

Add cardamom to your favorite chai tea, or golden milk for an added flavor boost. Or try this delicious warm chai recipe with cardamom.

Cardamom belongs to the same botanical family as turmeric & ginger. Both cardamom and turmeric pair well together in many spice blends and dishes, and they have many health benefits. If you want to give turmeric a whirl, take a look at this….

A side note from our friends at Organixx:

Do you sleep poorly? Do you feel sluggish or anxious? Is it difficult for you to lose weight? These are WARNING signs that you’re magnesium-deficient, and it’s going to get worse if you don’t do something about it.

Believe it or not, 80 percent of Americans are suffering from magnesium deficiency—and this includes many who are already taking a magnesium supplement.

Are you taking the wrong type of magnesium?

Up to 80% of adults do not get enough magnesium, even many who already take a supplement. Most formulas only include one or two forms of magnesium, which may not be well absorbed by the body.

Magnesium is involved in more than 300 vital processes that support sleep, energy, metabolism, and a calm mood. But if your supplement only lists magnesium oxide, citrate, or glycinate, it could be incomplete.

A more effective option is a complete magnesium formula that includes all seven essential forms your body needs for maximum benefits.

By: Cat Ebeling, RN, MSN-PHN, co-author of the best-sellers: The Fat Burning Kitchen, The Top 101 Foods that Fight Aging & The Diabetes Fix

Most people would be surprised to hear that oral health is very closely tied to overall health. But it’s absolutely true. Research shows that oral health has a far greater impact on many serious health conditions than you may realize. Making sure your teeth and gums are healthy will actually go a long ways towards helping you prevent diseases like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and dementia. If you neglect your mouth, you can be setting yourself up for major health issues that can actually shorten your life.

The Mouth Has its Own Microbiome

Much has been said about the digestive system’s microbiome. But guess what? The digestive system begins in our mouths. And our mouths also contain hundreds—if not thousands—of microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, and other small critters. While the health of your gut flora has been proven to play a very important role in your health, it has become increasingly apparent the health of your mouth flora is also vital to your health.

In people with a healthy oral cavity, the tiny bacteria and other micro-organisms in the mouth actually play a role in the digestion of food. These little micro-organisms also play a role in the immune function, warding off dangerous pathogens that could invade your body. The oral microbiome also helps to protect the teeth from those invaders that can cause cavities and gum disease.

When oral care is lacking, and diet is off, the bad bacteria in the mouth can quickly multiply to combine with any sugars or starches and attack the teeth. This can result in cavities, gum disease, tooth decay, periodontitis and other infections. These infections can easily spread to other parts of the body.

While Americans seem to prize big, white, dazzling smiles, our actual dental health is pretty bad. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that 91% of adults had cavities. Almost a third of all adult Americans have some type of tooth or gum issue going untreated. A whopping 64.7 million American adults have periodontal disease, an inflammatory bacterial disease of the gums, and for Americans who are 65+ years old, the number of them who have tooth and gum issues is 65%.

Why is our oral health so bad? It’s actually pretty simple—it’s diet. Diets high in sugar, processed grains and carbohydrates, combined with acidic, sugary drinks just eat away at our teeth and ruin our oral health. Even vegan diets high in carbs, fruit and grains can cause serious oral health issues.

Certain inflammatory digestive problems like gluten intolerance has been shown to cause serious damage to the teeth and gums as well. One study on this shows a direct correlation between celiac disease in children and enamel degradation, along with increased incidence of cavities. It’s hard to say whether this is due to the problems with malabsorption of minerals, or the increased inflammation that goes with gluten intolerance. My guess is that it is probably both. Likewise, a similar effect can be expected for those suffering from other inflammatory gut diseases and disorders, including IBS, Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.

So, it’s not only WHAT we put in our mouths that comes into contact with our teeth, but the food and nutrients that we put into our bodies that also affects the health of our teeth, gums and oral cavity.

Let’s take a look at some of the more common and serious health problems caused by bad oral health:

Heart Disease and Strokes

Most people would never make the connection, but poor oral health increases the risk for heart disease and strokes. Bacteria that causes gum disease can get into the bloodstream, along with plaque from the teeth and cause inflammation, blood clots and narrowed blood vessels. The damaging effect on the blood vessels can also lead to hypertension and strokes. In addition, colonies of bacteria can attack and infect the inner lining of the heart causing a serious condition called “endocarditis”.

Diabetes

Diabetics generally have a much higher risk of developing sores and infections. This includes the gums and teeth. With the addition of gum disease, symptoms of diabetes can worsen and it can become increasingly difficult to manage blood sugar levels. It becomes especially important for diabetics to take exceptionally good care of their teeth and gum. In addition, because gum disease leads to higher than normal blood sugar levels, a person with poor oral health is at an increased risk of developing diabetes.

Erectile Dysfunction

Yes, really! Poor oral hygiene, gum disease and cavities all put men at increased risk for ED. Chronic gum disease is actually known to have a direct tie to problems with ED. When bacteria from diseased gums get into the bloodstream it inflames blood vessels. When inflammation is present it can block blood flow to essential areas, including the genitals, making erections difficult or impossible.

Cancer

Tooth and gum disease increase the risk of a variety of cancers including, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, and cancers of the blood. Evidence shows chronic infection and inflammation are associated with increased risk of cancer development. There is also a strong connection between bacterial and viral infections and cancer cell growth.

Obviously, poor oral health practices such as smoking or using tobacco products can lead to oral and throat cancers, but other types of cancer have also been linked to gum disease as well.

Respiratory Infections and Lowered Immune Function

When bacteria and harmful pathogens residing in the mouth are inhaled into the lungs, or travel there through the bloodstream, there is definite elevated risk of respiratory infections, including severe Covid-19, pneumonia, acute bronchitis, and even COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). What’s more, infection and inflammation in the mouth lowers immune function even more, making it even harder to fight off these serious respiratory infections, making them potentially deadly.

Dementia

Poor oral health can have very negative effects on the brain. Substances released from inflamed gums can actually kill brain cells and lead to memory loss. Dementia and possibly even Alzheimer’s disease can result from the inflammation and infection from gum disease, when bacteria in the mouth is absorbed into the bloodstream.

In addition to the above serious health issues and diseases, poor oral health can also lead to:

• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Infertility
• Pregnancy problems
• Kidney disease
• Fibromyalgia
• Asthma
• Autoimmune disease

How to Protect Your Oral Health

First off, be sure to visit a dentist a minimum of once a year for a regular checkup and cleaning. They can inspect your gums and slow down any potential for gum disease or tooth decay. Be sure to brush often and floss daily.

Change your diet. Studies have shown a definite connection between a highly processed, high sugar diet and oral disease. Sugar and starches stick to the teeth and raise the acidity in the mouth, creating a perfect place for bad bacteria to multiply and do their damage.

A low carb, Paleo or ketogenic diet helps to lower carbs, reduce any sugars in the mouth, and protect the gums and teeth from infection. In addition, a healthy, balanced diet full of antioxidant rich vegetables, naturally raised meats and absent of starchy grains and sugar, is healthy for the whole body.

Protecting your oral health is exactly the same as looking after your overall health and wellbeing.
Eat well, get plenty of sleep, get outside and get lots of sunshine and vitamin D, exercise, and reduce stress.

Did you know that this…

60-Sec bedtime ritual rebuilds your teeth and gums overnight (Users say it’s better than implants)

Doctors still can’t believe their eyes…

Every person who did this 60-second trick before going to bed, experienced a dramatic rejuvenation of their gums, rebuilt their teeth…

And even got rid of bad breath and ugly spots…

No matter how advanced their tooth decay was…

And all they had to do is mix 2 dirt-cheap ingredients.
